First Recall for the 2010 Chevy Camaro

The new Camaro has only just gone on sale in the U.S., but General Motors has already issued the first recall on the retro-styled pony car. The recall concerns 1,243 V8-powered Camaros over an issue with the battery cable. Turns out that the positive battery cable has been positioned too close to the starter motor housing. According to GM, the cable may come in contact with the starter motor, wearing the insulation and potentially causing the vehicle to stall without the ability to restart, or even result in an engine compartment fire, though no such case has been reported.

General Motors said that its dealers will reroute the positive battery cable to ensure adequate clearance. If you happen to own a new Camaro with the new V8 engine, you can call Chevy at 1-800-630-2438 for more detailed information.

Ouch... Brand New Chevy Camaro SS gets Totaled by Teen with no Insurance nor Drivers License

It's a motorist's most horrific nightmare - buying a brand new car and getting into a total loss situation even before the odometer clocks a few thousand miles. That's what happened to Camaro5 forumster "Dertybr" when his spanking new 2010 Camaro SS was rear-ended last week by a teenager in a Ford Escape. To make matters worse for Dertybr, the teen not only lacked any type of insurance, but didn't even have a driver's license. We don't know what happened after the crash, but it sure sounds like a recipe for a human accident, if you get our drift.

Fortunately for Dertybr, his insurance replacement protection plan covered the total loss of the Camaro SS, meaning that he will be receiving a new car. Still, it sure does take out all the fun of buying a new car, doesn't it...

2010 Chevy Camaro by Fesler-Moss gets Corvette ZR1's Supercharged V8

GM's decision to not offer -at least for the time being- the new Chevy Camaro with the Corvette ZR1's 640 horsepower supercharged V8 engine has left the door wide open for tuners to satisfy the specific needs of power-hungry Camaro buyers. The 'dynamic-duo' is preparing a limited edition run of specially modified Camaros that can be equipped with any LS-series V8 engine that's currently available including the 'Vette ZR1's LS9.

2011 Pontiac Firebird Trans AM by ASC: New Camaro-Based Proposal

Pontiac's days may be numbered as General Motors plans to phase out the historic brand by the end of 2010, but that hasn't dampened ASC Creative Services' attempts to make a Trans Am version out of the all-new Chevy Camaro coupe. ASC has worked many times with General Motors in the past helping out in the creation and design development of cars like the 1987 Buick GNX, various Chevy SS models such as the HHR SS and Malibu SS, as well as the Cadillac STS-V and XLR-V sport cars just to mention a few.

2011 Pontiac Trans AM - CarscoopThe design and development firm's proposal for a Camaro-based Pontiac Trans Am is a fairly simply conversion that could easily lead to a custom-order production model. The changes include a new front fascia complete with unique head lights, twin-kidney grill inserts and restyled apron, a rear-facing hood shaker, new side skirts and alloy wheel designs plus rear-fender air vents. At the back the design proposes a new rear fascia with distinctive tail lights, boot spoiler and a specific apron housing new exhaust pipes.

While we don't have any photos of the interior, we gather that ASC would most likely limit the changes to the trim and seat options along with a revised instrument panel.

There's no information ASC's actual intentions on the car, but if you're really interested, you can send a mail to dave.byron (at) ascglobal.com for more information.

Chevy Launches Camaro Configurator for the Middle Eastern Markets

Believe it or not, it's been about a month since we last posted anything about the new Camaro -we hope that you'll forgive us for not following the hype and posting about the speck of dust found on the brake pads on one of the show cars... While the new Camaro won't be heading towards Europe any time soon, in the Middle East were the money flows like petrol (you know what countries we mean), Chevy has launched an exclusive website where buyers can personally configure and pre-order the 2010 Camaro.

The first examples of the Chevy's reborn muscle car will hit the Middle East market this July. The Camaro will be offered with a 3.6L V-6 engine delivering 323HP and 380 Nm, and a 6.2-liter V8 pumping out an estimated at 462HP at 6,400 rpm and 609 Nm at 4,800 rpm of torque. Both models will be offered in the Middle East with either a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission.

Russian Students Build Death Race Style Chevy Camaro

Inspired from the 2008 action film Death Race (which was a remake of the 1975 movie Death Race 2000) that revolves around a group of inmates racing their cars in a gladiator-like fight-to-the-end competition, a team of Russian students from Moscow's MHPI design school built a 'death racer' style Chevrolet Camaro that was exhibited at the Moscow Tuning Show 2009. The students used a mid-70's, second generation F-Body Camaro as a base for their project adorning it with numerous weapons and armor plates.
